It's also the biggest money maker for Relay For Life, the charity that supports the American Cancer Society, mostly because people who would love to do the Relay in RL can't.either they're survivors who can't do the walk because the illness and recovery was extremely rough on them, or factors like locale and not being able to get transportation prevent them from participating, so SL's Relay gives them the chance to do so. It can also be a valuable resource for some people.one example is one guy who suffers from severe depression but he lives in a country where there aren't a lot of resources for mentally ill people to turn to, and SL has literally been a lifesaver for him. I'm always wary of anyone who says "it's a game", especially since it is the only social outlet for a lot of people who are shut ins due to anxiety, agoraphobia, disability that causes lack of mobility, or who otherwise can't really have much of a social life in RL for any number of reasons. IME the people who love to say Second Life is a game are people who say that to justify being absolutely horrible to other people in Second Life.
